February is the month of love and February is the month of the National Budget speech. We learnt in the budget speech that our government is extending a bit of love to the lower income bracket by not increasing our taxes.
We also learnt in the budget speech that 900 000 jobs were lost in SA last year. What does this mean for you and me? Well if you are a job seeker you need to ensure that you have as many skills as possible on your CV to try and achieve the edge of all those other job seekers applying for the same job. It would be a good time to do a Pastel Accounting or Pastel Payroll course and to do your assessment so that you have the certificate to prove that you are competent.
AccIT is offering you a CV service. After passing your assessment you can lodge your CV with us and we will do our best to ensure that businesses looking for employees who are competent in Pastel will receive your CV.
If you already have a job you need to stay on your toes and ensure that you make yourself
indispensible. Why not attend training to find out how to do things more efficiently?
Business owners have you set your budget for the year? Do you know how to set your budget on Pastel? (Learn how in the Pastel Advanced course on 23-25 March).
Pastel is also showing a bit of love this February. There is a special on all new Pastel Accounting Software and Add-on Modules " 20% off (except Pastel Start-Up which is 15% off).
Pastel Start-Up was R999 now R799, save R200
Pastel Xpress, Single User was R2 499, now R1999- save R500
Pastel Partner was R7 500, now R6000 " save R1 500
R100 off on Pastel Accounting training courses
All specials end on Friday 26 February.
We would love to hear from you
Leonie

It has been a while since my last newsletter. April was memorable – I had my tonsils removed on the 6 April. At my age it was not fun. I couldn't speak for a few weeks. Finally 3 weeks ago I did get back to Training and I am also back to my other passion – teaching aerobics. So life is definitely looking up.
I attended our level 3 Pastel Accounting Training a few weeks ago. This is a course encompassing all the add-on modules: Manufacturing, Multi-Currency, Receipting, Time and Billing, Point-of-Sale, Multi Stores, Serial Number Tracking, GL Manager, Fixed Assets, Bank Manager and Cash Manager. We offer support, sales and training on all of these modules.
There are many courses planned for the rest of the term and the beginning of next term so please see our website.
Assessment dates for those who would like to write assessments are:12 June, 31 July, 14 or 28 August. Bookings must be made 5 working days before the assessment.
Good news for some: Pastel has looked at the overall economic situation and decided to offer clients a price reduction on the following products:
Pastel Xpress Start-up, Single User, Single Company is Now R999 (was R1699).
Pastel Xpress Single User, Multi-Company is now R2499 (was R2999).
Until next time….
Kind regards
Leonie Tanser

Happy New Year to all our clients and friends! May 2009 be your best year ever!
To start the new year, we have a new logo (see above).
It is already well into January and year-end is looming just seven weeks away. If you are unsure of the year-end processes, we will be running half-day seminar specifically on year-end. The Year-end Seminars will include a file with dividers and pointers on what information you need to give you accountant at year-end to speed up the compilation of your Annual Financials.
"There are few misfortunes in this world that you cannot turn into a personal triumph if you have the iron will and the necessary skill." Nelson Mandela.
I love that quotation by our former president, who is a great advocate of education. I would like to encourage all those who would like to learn a new skill or sharpen your old ones in 2009 to "go for it!" On that note the courses for the year are on the website.
*The manual Bookkeeping course has been developed by Pastel and should help you to understand the logic of the Accounting Cycle.
Kind regards
Leonie
Courses
It is already November and the year is almost finished. On the training side we have the last courses for the year as follows:
7 November – Pastel Payroll Level 1
11-15 November – 4 day Pastel Partner Processing
17 November – Pastel Payroll Level 2
18 & 19 November – Pastel Xpress
News
I recently attended the Pastel Accounting Approved Training Centres Roadshow, the training manager warned us that next year the price of manuals would need to increase as the printers have increased the price 4 times this year. So be prepared for an increase in training investment from January.
I also attended a demonstration of Pastel's brand new Cash Manager add-on module. This programme takes all your debtor information from your Pastel package and allows you to manage your debtors. No more cryptic notes scribbled on an Age Analysis print out. Cash Manager has fields to input the date on which you called the debtor, their Promise-to-pay date and drop down menus of excuses or space to type in any original ones. The reports you can run are wonderful including Promise-to-Pays due that day, or overdue. You can even email a record of all your correspondence to the debtor – effectively showing him that he is not pulling the wool over your eyes, this is also a good record for a legal case, should it come to that. You can also print out realistic Cash flow predictions based on actual promises to pay.
The developer himself showed us how the product works. He has been selling it for a few years as a pilot study and has interesting case studies: in one instance the 4 debtors clerks were battling to keep up with the debtors, but with Cash Manager they now use 3 debtors clerks who can cope easily and the 4th employee has moved over to sales. The cost of the programme is R3850 and the Annual licence fee is R1500 (compare that with a debtor's clerk's annual salary).
All software orders are to please be finalised by 17 November.
This week I have heard of 2 cases of computers being stolen. Please ensure that you are backing up and remember the safest way to back-up is with IronTree – Secure, automated, web-based back-up of all you files (not limited to Pastel files). Click this link to backup your data now http://www.irontree.co.za
2008 has been an exciting year for me and one that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I will be closing on Friday 21 November, so I would like to take this opportunity of wishing all my customers a very blessed Christmas. I hope that you will manage some time off with family and friends.
Kind regards
Leonie Tanser
